Because of the high content of pectin and tannic acid in hawthorn, it is easy to coagulate into water-insoluble precipitation after exposure to gastric acid, and form gastric stones with food residues, which can cause gastric ulcer, gastric bleeding, and even necrosis and perforation of gastric wall. But boiling hawthorn and eating it will reduce the effect of tannic acid.
